New York

New York, a concrete jungle, the city that never sleeps...and our next destination. We took a 2 and a half hour train ride from Connecticut into New York City. We arrived at the busy Penn station with two huge suitcases, two backpacks and no clue as to how the New York subway system worked. After half an hour of aimlessly dragging our bags back and forth trying to figure out the subway maps we opted for a taxi. 

We were so fortunate to be able to stay with Jacob's lovely godparents, who had an amazing apartment overlooking Central Park. This offered us a unique side of New York which we otherwise would not have experienced. 

During our 6 days in the city we took strolls through the iconic Central Park, under the freshly blooming cherry blossom trees. We visited Times Square, went shopping on 5th Avenue, and splurged on almost front row tickets to see Wicked the musical at the Gershwin Theatre on Broadway. We went to the Highline, which was an abandoned railway track in the meatpacking district that was transformed into a beautiful walkway high above the streets. And went to the top of the rock to experience the breathtaking view of the city at midnight. We crossed the Brooklyn Bridge and saw the Statue of Liberty along the way, then ended up in Soho, an amazing area for food, shopping and gorgeous streets.

We were sad to say goodbye to the beautiful city and the lovely people we had met, but were excited for the warm weather and sandy beaches of Miami.
